THE BFG

The Biodiversity Friendly Garden

in recent years MTT took on to maintain a small local public garden in the town. The garden was originally developed with Peace I funding over a decade ago but had fallen into disrepair. Volunteers got involved and with help from St Josephs CE Scheme, our horticulturalist and local residents, the garden has been restored.

In 2024 young people from the National Learning Network with their mentor Michael O Hare took on to develop the garden further by adding mini-ponds, hedgehog trails, a willow hedge, a dead hedge and pollinator friendly planting.

Help from the Migrant Men's group established a woodland trail and upgraded the allotment section and St Josephs CE Scheme painted fences and helped with maintenance.

The aim is to develop the garden into a wildlife or biodiversity friendly space with projects that anyone could do in their own garden.
